MARPOL 73/78 Consolidated edition 2002The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (better known as MARPOL 73/78), is one of the most important international agreements on the subject of marine pollution. The new consolidated edition provides an easy reference to the up-to-date provisions and unified interpretations of the articles, protocols and Annexes of the Convention. All amendments up to and including the 2000 amendments adopted by the Marine Environment Protection Committee by resolution MEPC.89(45) have been incorporated. Although not yet in force, the new Annex VI (Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships) has also been included. It comprises the annex to the Protocol of 1997 to amend MARPOL 73/78 and makes mandatory the new Technical Code on Control of Emission of Nitrogen Oxides from Marine Diesel Engines (NOx Technical Code). | |
IMDG CodeInternational Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (incorporating Amendment 30-00) The IMDG Code amplifies the requirements of part A of chapter VII of the 1974 SOLAS Convention and Annex III of MARPOL 73/78 and has become the standard guide to all aspects of handling dangerous goods and marine pollutants in sea transport. As such it is recommended to Governments for adoption or for use as the basis for national regulations. Amendment 30-00 was adopted by the MSC in May 2000. The MSC agreed that the new, reformatted Code would enter into force on 1 January 2002, with a 12-month implementation period until 31 December 2002. | |
